How to Install RaceAct RPM Lights and Gear Display

The RaceAct RevLight and Gear Matrix are plug-and-play USB devices that connect directly to your PC. No soldering, no wiring — just mount, plug in and configure through SimHub. This guide covers everything from physical installation to SimHub setup.

Note: These devices are PC only. They do not work on PlayStation or Xbox consoles, as SimHub requires a PC to read telemetry data from your simulator.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Phase 1 — Physical Mounting

Step 1 — Choose your mount
Your RaceAct device comes with either a universal holder or a wheel-base specific bracket depending on your order. The universal holder can be attached to any rig tube, monitor stand or dashboard. Wheel-base specific brackets clip directly onto your wheel base for a clean, integrated look.

Step 2 — Position the device
Mount the device at eye level, directly in your line of sight. For shift lights, the ideal position is above the steering wheel or at the top of your monitor — anywhere you can catch the LEDs without taking your eyes off the screen.

Step 3 — Connect via USB
Plug the USB cable into your PC. The device will power on immediately — no external power supply is needed. The cable is available in 1.5m and 3m lengths to suit different rig setups.

Phase 2 — Installing SimHub

Step 4 — Download SimHub
Go to simhubdash.com and download the latest version of SimHub. It is free to use. Install it on the same PC you use to run your simulator.

Step 5 — Launch SimHub
Open SimHub. On the left menu, go to Arduino (or Serial Devices depending on your version). Your RaceAct device should appear automatically. Click Enable.

Step 6 — Locate your device in SimHub
SimHub will recognise your RaceAct device automatically. For the RevLight, go to Arduino > RGB Leds to find and manage your device. For the Gear Matrix, go to Arduino > Display & Alerts to find and manage your device.

Phase 3 — Configuring RPM and Shift Points

Step 7 — Open the LED configuration
Inside SimHub, navigate to your device settings and open the LED editor. Here you can set exactly when each LED activates based on RPM percentage.

Step 8 — Set your shift point
Drag the RPM threshold sliders to match your preferred shift point. A typical setup uses green LEDs from 70% RPM, yellow from 85%, and red flashing at 95-100%. These can be saved per car or per game.

Step 9 — Choose your colours
Customise the LED colour sequence to your preference. Each LED can be individually coloured. Popular setups follow the green-yellow-red progression, but you can use any colour combination.

Step 10 — Start your simulator and test
Launch your simulator with SimHub running in the background. Get into a session, rev the engine and confirm the LEDs respond correctly. Adjust thresholds if needed from the SimHub overlay without restarting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to pay for SimHub?
No. SimHub is free and fully functional for RPM lights and gear display. A paid donation version unlocks additional features like dashboards, but is not required for RaceAct devices.

My device is not detected by SimHub. What should I do?
First, try a different USB port. Then open SimHub, go to Arduino/Serial Devices and click Scan for devices. If it still does not appear, try reinstalling the SimHub drivers from the SimHub settings menu.

Can I use the RevLight and Gear Matrix at the same time?
Yes. Both devices can run simultaneously through SimHub. Simply connect both via USB and enable each device separately in SimHub's device menu.

Does it work with every car in iRacing/ACC?
SimHub reads live telemetry data from your simulator, so it works with every car automatically. RPM thresholds can be saved per car profile within SimHub if you want different settings for different vehicles.

Does it work on console — PlayStation or Xbox?
No. SimHub requires a Windows PC to read simulator telemetry. These devices are not compatible with PlayStation or Xbox.

My LEDs flash at the wrong RPM. How do I fix it?
Open SimHub, go to your device settings and adjust the RPM percentage threshold sliders. Each car has different RPM ranges, so you may need to fine-tune the settings per vehicle.
